And there’s a twist. Fifteen gold vinyl test pressings, signed by both Rat and Chris, have been randomly tucked into presale orders. You won’t know you’ve got one until you open it.
The bassist/multi-instrumentalist Chris Constantinou and drum legend Rat Scabies collaborated for some years as core members of The Mutants rock supergroup. When making the fourth Mutants album, Rat noticed some other demos Chris was working on and this turned into the project One Thousand Motels, involving only the two of them (quicker and easier to put in practice, considering the logistics around The Mutants musicians as a supergroup).
Their music is characterized by Vive Le Rock as “upbeat rock songs with a twist in the lyrical tail” and by Midlands Rock as “a match seemingly made in rock ‘n’ roll heaven (or a punky purgatory)”. In 2020, they released the album 2% out of Sync, described in reviews as forging new ground. The album was co-produced and mixed by Nicholas de Carlo

ONE THOUSAND MOTELS

★★★
This album has taken a long time to get a physical release, but it’s well worth it if you’re a fan of punk rock and its seasoned campaigners. Rat Scabies, the drummer with The Damned, and Chris Constantinou, the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who played bass for Adam & The Ants among many others, had been members of punk supergroup The Mutants, but when Rat heard some of Chris’ s demos during some down time, another project was born. This set of heartfelt rockers actually came out digitally back in 2020, but only now do we have a smoke green vinyl reissue. Best moments are I Like Sex In The Suburbs and Gerry’s Ashes.
